Sony Batteries

As Of 2019 Sony Micro Batteries Have Become Murata Batteries

Sony Micro Batteries, (SR, LR, CR) button and coin cells are being permanently discontinued in 2019, along with all other Sony branded batteries. Sony has been the world leader in silver oxide watch batteries for many years, owning a world market share in excess of 40%. Sony has been the leading supplier of watch batteries to many of the world’s leading watch movement manufacturers, including Citizen, Seiko, Casio, Orient and Epson. Three years ago, Sony sold its battery manufacturing facilities to MuRata Manufacturing, a Japanese electronics component manufacturer with over USD 14 billion in annual sales. Now, in 2019, MuRata will introduce its own line of MuRata branded batteries to replace Sony in the market. The MuRata line-up for SR, LR and CR button and coin cells will encompass the same complete product line. The MuRata batteries continue in the same tradition as the Sony batteries they will replace, as one of the best quality button and coin cells available to consumers and manufacturers. Micropower Battery Company has been a master distributor of Sony branded batteries since 1993, distributing to North and South America.

Coin Manganese Dioxide Lithium Batteries are being used in a broad range of applications, from quarts watches and clocks, a backup power sources for memories requiring long-term reliability over 10 years to IoT equipment, and car keyless entry systems. Lithium metal, used for the anode in Coin Manganese Dioxide Lithium Batteries, has the largest electric capacity per unit weight (3.86 Ah/g) among all the materials usable for the anode. Thus, batteries with a high energy density can be produced. Sony has commercialized the Coin Manganese Dioxide Lithium Batteries, which uses manganese dioxide for the active cathode material for superior stability.

Silver oxide battery is a small-sized primary battery mainly used for wrist watches, using zinc as the negative electrode (cathode), silver oxide as the positive electrode (anode) plus an alkaline electrolyte . Thanks to its high energy density and superb stable discharge characteristics, silver oxide batteries are being used in a broad range of applications, from quarts watches to portable devices such as electric clinical thermometers and portable games.

Alkaline manganese battery is a small-sized primary battery, using manganese dioxide(MnO2) as the active cathode material and zinc-alloy powder as the active anode material. Due to its excellent cost performance, alkaline manganese batteries are being used in a brad range of applications from toys, calculators to portable devices.
